Own it or lease it?

Most of our garages can be bought or leased. Here's how the two compare, plus a calculator to run your own numbers.

The short version

Own

Best if you plan to keep it for years.

Upfront
A down payment, or the full price if you pay cash.
Every month
Your loan payment (if financed), association dues and property taxes.
Equity
You build it. The garage is real estate you can sell later.
Making it yours
Mezzanines, lifts, lounges and other build-outs make sense when you own the space.
Flexibility
Selling takes time, like any property.

Lease

Best if you need space now and aren't ready to commit.

Upfront
Little or nothing beyond your first payment and any deposit.
Every month
One predictable rent payment.
Equity
None. Rent is a cost, not an investment.
Making it yours
Limited. Major changes usually aren't worth it in a space you don't own.
Flexibility
Easier to move to a bigger unit or a different community.

Not every garage is offered both ways. Use the Lease or purchase filter on Available garages to see what's available.

Buying a garage condo is a lot simpler than buying a house. Here's the whole road, start to finish.

  1. Book a tour

Walk the site, open a few doors and bring your tape measure.

    Book a tour
  2. Pick your garage

Choose the community, size and features that fit your gear.

    See garages
  3. Sign the purchase agreement

Put your name on it. Your unit is locked in.

  4. Line up the money

Pay cash or finance it. We'll send your lender the documents they need.

  5. Close and get your keys

Sign the final papers. The deed is yours, and so is the gate code.

  6. Moving day

Back it in, roll it in, tow it in. Finally, room for everything.

  7. Make it yours

Add a mezzanine, a lift or a lounge. This is where the fun starts.
